{"id":94652,"date":"2018-08-09T08:30:21","date_gmt":"2018-08-09T08:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=3dd4f5455cf905fd1c5b36f8e1b7837a"},"modified":"2018-08-09T08:30:21","modified_gmt":"2018-08-09T08:30:21","slug":"news-story-global-access-to-reliable-energy-apply-for-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=94652","title":{"rendered":"News story: Global access to reliable energy: apply for funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Innovate UK has up to \u00a310 million to invest in innovative, market-focused energy technologies through the Energy Catalyst funding programme.<\/p>\n<p>Round 6 of the Energy Catalyst will support energy innovations across all technologies, sectors and international markets to help address the global need for reliable energy.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Catalyst is run by Innovate UK and co-funded by partners including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-international-development\">Department for International Development (DFID)<\/a> and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/epsrc.ukri.org\/\">Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"bringing-energy-to-poorly-served-regions\">Bringing energy to poorly served regions<\/h2>\n<p>Reliable sources of energy are crucial to human wellbeing but 1.1 billion people have no access to electricity. While progress has been made in both sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iea.org\/publications\/freepublications\/publication\/weo2017specialreport_energyaccessoutlook.pdf\">14% of the world\u2019s population is still without access, rising to 84% in rural areas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new funding is for projects that meet the needs of the people, businesses and services in these regions.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"tackling-the-energy-trilemma\">Tackling the \u2018Energy Trilemma\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Organisations applying for funding will need to address the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worldenergy.org\/work-programme\/strategic-insight\/assessment-of-energy-climate-change-policy\/\">World Energy Council\u2019s<\/a> \u2018Energy Trilemma\u2019 and its 3 pillars:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cost \u2013 reducing prices to make energy accessible to everyone<\/li>\n<li>emissions \u2013 generating cleaner energy with lower emissions to protect the environment<\/li>\n<li>security of supply \u2013 putting reliable infrastructure in place to keep energy flowing without disruption or shortage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/case-studies\/anvil-semiconductors-lighting-the-way-on-led-technology\">Read a case study on Anvil Semiconductors\u2019 Energy Catalyst-funded LED project to address the Energy Trilemma<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"funding-for-different-stages-of-development\">Funding for different stages of development<\/h2>\n<p>The competition offers 3 strands for projects in different stages of development; early stage, mid-stage and late stage.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for early-stage projects is designed for feasibility studies exploring the technical potential of an idea.
