These are for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fast-track collaborative research and development projects<\/li>\n<li>longer collaborative research and development projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A further competition for feasibility studies will be run in 2019. The \u00a38 million will be shared across the 3 competitions.<\/p>\n<p>All projects must be in line with the UK aerospace technology strategy, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ati.org.uk\/strategy\/publications\/\">Raising Ambition<\/a>. This strategy is supported by an annual investment of \u00a3150 million by the UK government in research and technology development.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" id=\"exploit-technology-within-3-to-5-years\">Exploit technology within 3 to 5 years<\/h3>\n<p>The first competition is for fast-track R&amp;D projects that could be exploited within 3 to 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>Projects could look at:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>sensing for harsh environments and integrated vehicle health monitoring<\/li>\n<li>coping with extreme conditions<\/li>\n<li>creating secure, smart, connected and efficient sub-systems<\/li>\n<li>technologies to improve factory efficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"fast-track-competition-information\">Fast-track competition information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition opens on 24 September 2018, and the deadline for expressions of interest is midday on 5 December 2018<\/li>\n<li>projects that meet the quality threshold will be invited to make a full funding application<\/li>\n<li>an SME can lead a project, working with other businesses or research organisations<\/li>\n<li>we expect projects to range in size from \u00a3425,000 to \u00a31 million and to last between 1 and 2 years<\/li>\n<li>businesses could attract up to 50% of their project costs<\/li>\n<li>you will need to sign up to the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ati.org.uk\/funding\/framework-agreement\/\">ATI framework agreement<\/a> to be eligible to apply<\/li>\n<li>you can <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ktn-uk.co.uk\/events\/uk-aerospace-research-and-technology-ukart-programme-research-and-development-competition-briefing\">register for a briefing event in London on 2 October collaborations, the results of which could be exploited in 5 years or more.<\/p>\n<p>Themes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>how to enable single crew operations<\/li>\n<li>machines and electronics that allow for more electric aircraft<\/li>\n<li>supporting the next generation of materials and processes<\/li>\n<li>preliminary design and trade tools for future aircraft and systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3
