{"id":95872,"date":"2018-09-21T08:30:04","date_gmt":"2018-09-21T08:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=93bdbe95ba610b2d1337d9083fc84a9f"},"modified":"2018-09-21T08:30:04","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T08:30:04","slug":"news-story-improving-local-services-with-data-apply-for-contracts-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=95872","title":{"rendered":"News story: Improving local services with data: apply for contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.durham.gov.uk\/\">Durham County Council<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blaenau-gwent.gov.uk\/\">Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council<\/a> are seeking projects that investigate innovative ways of capturing data to improve their services.<\/p>\n<p>The councils are looking for projects that investigate 2 techniques:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018boots on the ground\u2019, where residents collect and report data about issues such as potholes and street lighting<\/li>\n<li>\u2018eyes on the street\u2019, where council vehicles collect and report data as they travel around the streets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funding for the competition is provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/govtech-catalyst-information\">GovTech Catalyst<\/a>, a \u00a320 million fund to help the public sector to make use of innovative technologies and improve public services.<\/p>\n<p>It is being run under the SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) programme.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\">Find out more about SBRI and how it works.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"projects-must-use-advanced-data-techniques\">Projects must use advanced data techniques<\/h2>\n<p>Projects must look at intelligent data capture and advanced data analysis. They must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>record and report local information accurately and regularly<\/li>\n<li>significantly reduce service inefficiencies<\/li>\n<li>integrate with other datasets in the councils<\/li>\n<li>provide a robust evidence base for policy, service or budget development<\/li>\n<li>work with the general public<\/li>\n<li>enable councils to share data appropriately with the public<\/li>\n<li>be practical and economically viable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The competition has \u00a3250,000 to fund a series of short feasibility studies in a first phase.
