{"id":95990,"date":"2018-09-25T14:30:02","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T14:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=67aa7c115bf885a44296b3b153dadafd"},"modified":"2018-09-25T14:30:02","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T14:30:02","slug":"news-story-zero-emission-vehicles-funding-to-drive-development-and-adoption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=95990","title":{"rendered":"News story: Zero emission vehicles: funding to drive development and adoption"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Up to \u00a322 million is available for industry-led research and innovation that accelerates the uptake and use of zero-emission vehicles in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is looking for low-cost, highly-integrated systems that support zero-emission journeys for cars and other vehicles including buses, motorbikes and large trucks.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/office-for-low-emission-vehicles\">Office for Low Emission Vehicles<\/a> is working with Innovate UK to deliver the funding.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"leading-the-transition-to-zero\">Leading the transition to zero<\/h2>\n<p>UK government\u2019s strategy to clean up transport, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/reducing-emissions-from-road-transport-road-to-zero-strategy\">The Road to Zero,<\/a> has an objective for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040.<\/p>\n<p>In order to improve air quality and provide a better environment for people, there needs to be a massive expansion of infrastructure that supports clean technology and a leap forward in the development of cars, vans and trucks that produce low or zero emissions.<\/p>\n<p>This competition will support government\u2019s aim to accelerate adoption and grow a strong, clean economy, putting the UK at the forefront of the global market.<\/p>\n<p>It will help to achieve government\u2019s modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/the-uks-industrial-strategy\">Industrial Strategy<\/a>. One of the grand challenges is looking at transforming the movement of people, goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>There are 3 opportunities to apply, depending on the stage and size of the project.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/industrial-strategy-the-grand-challenges\/industrial-strategy-the-grand-challenges#future-of-mobility\">Find out more about the future of mobility grand challenge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"support-for-multiple-collaborative-projects\">Support for multiple, collaborative projects<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"whats-the-opportunity\">What\u2019s the opportunity?<\/h3>\n<p>There is up to \u00a316 million to fund multiple, collaborative research and development (R&amp;D) projects. These should have a total value of less than \u00a34 million.<\/p>\n<p>Projects should focus on one of the following to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>advance power electronics, machines and drives for automotive applications<\/li>\n<li>improve energy storage and management<\/li>\n<li>develop lightweight vehicle and powertrain structures<\/li>\n<li>create zero emission technologies that are highly disruptive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"small-scale-rd-competition-information\">Small-scale R&amp;D competition information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition is open, and the deadline for applications is midday on 6 December 2018<\/li>\n<li>a UK business of any size can lead the project, working with other businesses, research organisations or third-sector organisations<\/li>\n<li>total project costs can be between \u00a3250,000 and \u00a34 million<\/li>\n<li>businesses could get up to 70% of their eligible costs<\/li>\n<li>projects should last between one and 3 years and start by June 2019<\/li>\n<li>the best projects will be invited to interview between 18 to 22 February to progress their application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" id=\"a-single-large-high-value-project\">A single, large, high-value project<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"whats-the-opportunity-1\">What\u2019s the opportunity?<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to investing in multiple collaborative R&amp;D projects, up to \u00a34 million is on offer for a single, large, high-value research and development project.<\/p>\n<p>The project should look at one of more of the following to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>disrupt conventional powertrain technology in vehicles<\/li>\n<li>support the transition of UK internal combustion engine manufacturing capability into e-powertrain production<\/li>\n<li>develop e-powertrain solutions that are not related to any conventional engine research and development work<\/li>\n<li>integrate zero emission technologies with a conventional engine for demonstration purposes, at minor costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"single-project-competition-information\">Single project competition information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition is open, and competition has up to \u00a32 million for feasibility studies.<\/p>\n<p>Technologies could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the electrification of conventional powertrains, such as waste heat recovery systems and hybridisation<\/li>\n<li>e-powertrains solutions that do not include costs related to any conventional engine R&amp;D work<\/li>\n<li>hydrogen innovations, for example, in fuel cells or
