{"id":96138,"date":"2018-09-28T10:45:59","date_gmt":"2018-09-28T10:45:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=00d3402ae5dda7af1539d348857dc56e"},"modified":"2018-09-28T10:45:59","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T10:45:59","slug":"news-story-bizarre-excuses-for-filing-company-accounts-late","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=96138","title":{"rendered":"News story: Bizarre excuses for filing company accounts late"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Each year we receive unusual excuses from directors who fail to file their company accounts on time.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most outrageous reasons given include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cgoats ate my accounts\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cI found my wife in the bath with my accountant\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cpirates stole my accounts\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cwe delivered the accounts to the betting office next door to Companies House\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201ca volcano erupted and prevented me from filing\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cslugs ate my accounts\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cit was Valentine\u2019s Day\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cmy company was more successful than I thought it would be, so I was too busy to file\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ARdgU3ByROU\">Bizarre filing excuses<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The companies which gave these excuses received a late filing penalty and their appeals were unsuccessful. Penalties increase depending on how late the accounts are filed and the status of the company.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Enforcement Manager, Nick Parker, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Companies and directors must be aware of their responsibility to file accounts with Companies House. Companies can sign up to receive e-mail reminders, which can be sent to up to four e-mail addresses.<\/p>\n<p>There will always be unforeseen events that mean a company is unable to file accounts on time. In exceptional circumstances, companies can request an extension to the filing deadline, however these requests must be received before the filing deadline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Most companies can file accounts electronically \u2013 it\u2019s faster and easier. The Companies House WebFiling service has in-built checks to ensure that all the relevant information is provided before a customer can submit. It also provides filers with automatic e-mail confirmation that accounts have been received and once they have been accepted for filing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To send us accounts electronically, you must <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ewf.companieshouse.gov.uk\/\/runpage?page=webfilingRegister&amp;signUpPage.lang=en\">register for our online filing services<\/a>.
