{"id":96489,"date":"2018-10-11T12:37:14","date_gmt":"2018-10-11T12:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=080bc7aa0663782413db17de8f43be6c"},"modified":"2018-10-11T12:37:14","modified_gmt":"2018-10-11T12:37:14","slug":"news-story-steve-rowan-appointed-epo-vice-president-for-patent-granting-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=96489","title":{"rendered":"News story: Steve Rowan appointed EPO Vice-President for Patent Granting Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> welcomes the announcement  that Steve Rowan, Director Registered Rights (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>) has been appointed as<br \/>\n<a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epo.org\/news-issues\/news\/2018\/20181010.html\">Vice-President of the European Patent Office Directorate-General Patent Granting Process<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tim Moss, <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> Chief Executive said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Congratulations to Steve on his well deserved appointment. I\u2019m very proud that the UK has been able to field such a strong candidate and the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> wishes him all the best in his future role.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Steve joined the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr> in 1991 and has held a number of operational and tribunal roles within the <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property Office\">IPO<\/abbr>. As Director of Registered Rights he is responsible for the patent, trade mark and design application and examination processes and the management of those rights and the Office\u2019s tribunal functions.<\/p>\n<p>He has also worked on a wide range of <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> policy issues as Deputy Director of the International and Copyright and <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> Enforcement Directorates. He has extensive experience of EU and international negotiations and was Head of the UK Delegation to the Beijing and Marrakesh Diplomatic Conferences. He was seconded to the Prime Minister\u2019s Strategy Unit (2004) and HM Treasury (2006), working on the Gowers Review of <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>The Administrative Council of the <abbr title=\"European Patent Office\">EPO<\/abbr> comprises delegations from the 38 member states and is responsible for supervising the activities of the European Patent Office, the Organisation\u2019s executive branch. The Council also approves the Office\u2019s budget, and appoints its senior managers, including the President and vice-presidents.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"European Patent Office\">EPO<\/abbr>\u2019s Directorate-General Patent Granting Process is responsible for the entire patent granting process from end to end. This includes search, examination, publication, opposition and all related formalities, and for delivering support for the patent granting process to internal and external users of <abbr title=\"European Patent Office\">EPO<\/abbr> services.<\/p>\n<p>Steve\u2019s appointment will take effect on 1 January 2019 and is for five years.
