{"id":96544,"date":"2018-10-12T14:49:30","date_gmt":"2018-10-12T14:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ed81d664537ebcd04a4e17caeb5863a3"},"modified":"2018-10-12T14:49:30","modified_gmt":"2018-10-12T14:49:30","slug":"news-story-32-million-competition-launched-for-amr-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=96544","title":{"rendered":"News story: \u00a332 million competition launched for AMR research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>This funding will be awarded through open competition by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this funding is to support capital investment in buildings (including refurbishment) and equipment to strengthen the UK\u2019s <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr> research capability in order to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop innovative approaches to tackling <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<li>establish a body of researchers with a wide range of skills and expertise relevant to <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<li>encourage external funding for <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr> research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All NHS trusts, higher education institutions and not-for-profit UK research organisations (including the NHS and public sector agencies and research establishments) in the UK are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Funding will be awarded for a 2-year period starting on 1 April 2019. All funding provided to successful applicants must be spent by 31 March 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The closing date for <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ccfrms.nihr.ac.uk\/\">applications<\/a> is 1pm on 6 December 2018. <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nihr.ac.uk\/funding-and-support\/funding-to-support-research\/amr-capital-funding.htm\">More information is on NIHR\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Resistance to all antimicrobials, and especially bacterial resistance to existing antibiotics, is increasing. It is now posing a serious threat to health both in the UK and globally, and risks undermining the major improvements in medicine that have been made in recent decades.<\/p>\n<p>Improving knowledge and understanding of <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr> is an important part of the UK\u2019s <abbr title=\"antimicrobial resistance\">AMR<\/abbr> strategy.
