It is hoped that the sector will transform, from the treatment of illnesses to prediction and prevention.<\/p>\n<p>To encourage the development and adoption of new, data-driven technology, Innovate UK has invested \u00a3400,000 in <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crick.ac.uk\/partnerships\/partnerships\/kq-labs\">KQ Labs<\/a>. The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crick.ac.uk\/\">Francis Crick Institute<\/a> \u2013 a centre that focuses on the understanding of the biology underlying health and disease \u2013 will run the accelerator programme.<\/p>\n<p>KQ Labs, named after the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.knowledgequarter.london\/\">\u2018Knowledge Quarter\u2019<\/a> area around King\u2019s Cross, Euston and Bloomsbury in London, will provide guidance and advice for health start-ups working with data.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 companies that will receive support are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ayuda, whose app helps diabetes patients with insulin management<\/li>\n<li>Chromadose, which personalises monitoring of blood levels to deliver oncology drugs<\/li>\n<li>ConcR, which uses data to predict cancer evolution and patient response to treatment<\/li>\n<li>Cortirio, which has developed a scanner for portable diagnosis of brain injuries<\/li>\n<li>Deepscope, the developer of an educational app for ultrasound simulation<\/li>\n<li>Heron, the creators of a graphical \u2018map of science\u2019<\/li>\n<li>LifeEngine AI, whose hospital tool predicts mortality from acute kidney injury<\/li>\n<li>Macusoft, whose artificial intelligence system helps guide the treatment of preventable sight loss<\/li>\n<li>Mendelian, which has developed an online platform to help speed up diagnosis of rare diseases<\/li>\n<li>Vision Game Labs, which uses gaming techniques to diagnose eye disease through home monitoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr Veronique Birault, Head of Translation at the Crick, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is the start of a very exciting journey for the 10 start-ups, and also a great contribution towards building the ecosystem for data-driven health in the Kings Cross area.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk\/competition\/search\">Find more funding opportunities and apply<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"help-to-progress-business-proposals\">Help to progress business proposals<\/h2>\n<p>Each start-up will receive \u00a340,000 to take forward their business proposals, a customised framework for developing and progressing their technology, alongside mentoring and coaching from a group of global experts to prepare them for future investment.<\/p>\n<p>These experts will form part of the academy programme, providing insight into entrepreneurship, the health sector, data science and investment strategies. They will lead workshops to address a variety of challenges throughout the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The accelerator programme supports the government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/the-uks-industrial-strategy\">Industrial Strategy<\/a>.
