ICAEW convened the first meeting of the AQF on 7 December 2004. This was at the request of UK government and was at a time where there were real concerns about audit. The AQF was established without any formal status in law or regulation on the basis that it would only continue in existence for as long as there was continuing support for it and issues to debate.
