Passports and visas

• you don’t need a visa to travel to Germany, but your passport should be valid for the period of the outward and return journeys
• remember your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) but also take out travel insurance, even if you’re only going for one night – it could save you a lot of money if you get into difficulties
• you should carry your passport with you at all times. It is a requirement under law in Germany to show ID if requested by the police or judicial authorities
• if you lose your passport you will have to apply for an Emergency Travel Document at the British Consulate Düsseldorf the following day

Getting to the stadium

• the best way to get to the stadium is by tram number 302 from the Gelsenkirchen main station (Hauptbahnhof)
• it takes approximately fifteen minutes to Veltins Arena Station
• the stadium is about five minutes walk from the station. Car parking space is free at the Gelsenwasser car park near to the stadium
• there is also a coach park which costs €20
• your match ticket covers the cost of travel to and from the stadium from anywhere in the surrounding district by tram, bus or train

At the match

• only valid ticketholders will be admitted to the ground
• people with damaged or forged tickets, or people who have lost or had their tickets stolen will be turned away
• Chelsea fans have been allocated blocks V and W should enter the stadium at the gate specifically allocated to visiting supporters which is well signposted
• the gates open at 18:45
• there will be ticket checks and body searches at the entrance so to avoid bottlenecks you should arrive at the ground early
• visiting supporters are not usually kept behind at the end of the match
• there are plenty of beer and food stands in and around the stadium. No alcoholic drinks are sold in the stadium
• food and drink can be paid for by prepaid voucher in the stadium
• any balance on the vouchers can either be redeemed at the end of the match or used at a future game
• soft drinks up to 0.5 litres may be brought into the stadium
• match-day officials are entitled to refuse entry to people who have had too much to drink
• smoking is allowed in the stadium
• flags and banners are allowed providing they are not too big and have no political references
• small drums and musical instruments are allowed
• the stadium is an all-seater and fans are requested not to stand up during the match
• large crowds are the favoured hunting grounds for petty criminals
• take care of your valuables and only exchange money from authorised currency exchanges
