EU

Asked whether the Prime Minister thought it was unpatriotic to leave the EU, the PMS referred to the PM’s speech in January.

Economy

Asked about the action the government was taking on fiscal consolidation, the PMS said that it was right that those with the broadest shoulders should bear the greatest burden. He went on to refer to the PM’s speech last week about encouraging entrepreneurialism.

Union review

Asked who appointed Bruce Carr QC to review trade union tactics, the PMS said this was a government review reporting to the Secretary of State for Business and Minister for the Cabinet Office. The review was expected to take around 6 months.

Scotland

Asked what the PM’s view was on the implications for Scotland of the Institute for Fiscal Studies research, the PMS referred to the comments made by the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Sri Lanka

Asked whether the PM would be welcoming the President of Sri Lanka to Glasgow 2014, the PMS said these types of international events offered an opportunity to shine a spotlight on recent events.
