British Nationals fleeing the violence in South Sudan have just departed Juba Airport on FCO-chartered flight.

The second RAF C-17 Globemaster flight chartered by the Foreign Office departed Juba at 18:30 hours local time today carrying 93 people, and will be met on arrival at Entebbe Airport, Uganda by Consular officials.

The Foreign Secretary William Hague said:

I have authorised a second flight carrying British nationals, which has now departed Juba. I advise any British nationals who remain in South Sudan and wish to leave to contact the FCO as soon as possible.

I am concerned about continuing violence in South Sudan. All leaders should exercise restraint. The safety and security of civilians is paramount, and I have urged Vice-President Wani Igga to ensure differences are resolved through political means.
