Commenting today on the fighting north of the capital, Sana’a, Minister for the Middle East Hugh Robertson said:

I strongly condemn yesterday’s fighting in Amran involving the Houthis, other armed groups and Army units. I share the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser for Yemen’s concern about the continuing violence. I am extremely concerned by the UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator’s report that more than 200 civilians – including women and children – have been killed and that thousands of people are reportedly trapped inside Amran City. My thoughts are with the people of Amran and the families of the victims who have suffered in these attacks.

The British government fully supports the government of Yemen and urge all parties to immediately cease hostilities and adhere to existing ceasefire agreements. UN Security Council Resolution 2140 is clear in its support for the Yemen political transition process and the need for action against those who wish to disrupt Yemen’s future.
