The UK is a world-leader in science and engineering and there are a number of initiatives and events to inspire and encourage more young people into these industries.
The British Science Festival celebrates science, engineering and technology and this year was visited by Greg Clark Minister of State for Universities, Science and Cities, who said:

We are making headway in this area by funding the Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering’s STEM Diversity programmes and I am proud to lead the ‘Your Life’ campaign for BIS but we must focus attention on tackling the legacy of low uptake of science courses and outdated recruitment models for top positions. This will help to ensure that the science and engineering workforce, which is vital to growth and the economy, is diverse, reflects wider society and makes use of all the talents available to it.

Programmes and campaigns dedicated to this include:

• the Your Life campaign is a call to action to encourage more women into technology and engineering
• the Royal Academy of Engineering’s programme is committed to diversity, equality and inclusion in the engineering profession
• the Campaign for Science & Engineering (CaSE) is the leading independent advocate for science and engineering in the UK

Recently the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Women’s Engineering Society worked together to celebrate the role of women in engineering over the past 100 years.
