The Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, today welcomed agreement at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg by EU Foreign Ministers that more needed to be done to fight the Ebola outbreak. The Council also reached agreement on Ebola care and medevac for those tackling Ebola in the region.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said:

“We all need to do more to support the fight against Ebola and I’m pleased that EU Foreign Ministers explicitly recognised that necessity.

“I am also delighted to have secured an agreement to have a coordinated approach to Ebola care and medevac. This agreement will give international health workers responding to the Ebola crisis the assurances they need that they will receive the very best care possible, should they contract Ebola.

“The UK has so far committed £125 million to this effort and I’m delighted that EU Foreign Ministers welcomed the leading role that the UK, the US and France, are playing.”
