News story: Foreign Office concerned by detention of women’s rights activists in China

This item was filled under Housing

A Foreign Office spokesperson said:

We remain deeply concerned by the ongoing detention of Wu Rongrong, Wei Tingting, Wang Man, Zheng Churan and Li Tingting in cities across China. The five women were arrested prior to International Women’s Day for peacefully demonstrating against sexual harassment. We are particularly concerned by reports that they have been denied due legal process, and at least one, Wu Rongrong, denied access to adequate medical care while in detention.

We urge China to release all those detained for exercising their rights to freedom of expression, in line with China’s Constitution and international human rights commitments.
