News story: Remember a Charity in your Will Week

This item was filled under Housing

Today (7 September) marks the start of Remember a Charity in your Will week – encouraging people to consider leaving a charitable gift in their Will, once they’ve looked after their family and friends.

The week is led by Remember A Charity who work in collaboration with 140 member charities, the Government and partners, to do what no single charity can do alone – making gifts in Wills the social norm.

Research shows that 35% of people wanted to leave money to a charity in their Will, but only 7.3% do. This week will take steps towards helping those who have the intention of leaving a charitable gift in their Will, but aren’t quite sure how.

Minister for Culture, Ed Vaizey said:

Legacy giving is fundamental to the future of the cultural sector. Charitable legacies are the foundation for many good causes in the UK and are vital in continuing their work.

I encourage you to use this week as an opportunity to have a conversation with an employee or volunteer at some of your favourite cultural organisations, to learn a bit more about the huge impact legacy giving has on their fantastic work.
