The Summer Diversity Internship Programme closing reception was a chance for this year’s interns to celebrate and reflect on their experience on the 2-month placement, as well as to encourage them to apply for the Civil Service Fast Stream, the government’s flagship graduate programme.

Gurjinder Dhaliwal, whose placement was at the Cabinet Office, said:

The Closing Reception was a fantastic way to end the internship. The day involved inspiring speeches, fun exercises and a chance to meet other interns from across the country, as well as fast streamers. I even had the opportunity to meet Clive Myrie, the BBC News legend, who provided some really good advice!

Pooja Ahluwalia, whose placement was at HMRC, said:

Participating in the SDIP helped me to build confidence in my abilities and strengths.

The Closing Reception was a great end to the programme with some really inspirational speakers like footballer Fabrice Muamba, broadcaster Clive Myrie and Head of the Civil Service Fast Stream and Early Talent, Gillian Smith.

The main thing I took away was that I should be proud to be different. I learnt that I should be a representative of diversity by being seen and heard.

This internship has introduced me to a range of new possibilities. It has taught me a lot about myself and has made me question what I enjoy and what I’m good at. The programme has made me feel like I am in control of my future.
