Further improvements which were due to be made to the A11 at Fiveways roundabout near Barton Mills, Suffolk, this week following the completion of a major upgrade last year, have been postponed for operational reasons.

The work, which will improve safety and traffic flow by changing the road markings and signs on the roundabout and its approaches to more clearly direct traffic into the correct lanes, will now take place by spring 2016.

Highways England project manager, Geoff Chatfield said:

Safety is Highways England’s top priority. We had planned to start work last night on the A11 around Fiveways Roundabout but a combination of factors including the safety of our road workers meant that we have decided to postpone the work for now.

We want to do this right, so we are now working closely with our contractors to review plans and reschedule the work to a date as soon as we are able.

We apologise for the delay in carrying out this work. In the meantime, we have made sure temporary signs are in place on the approaches to the A11 to help reduce the likelihood of incidents and encourage drivers to use the correct lanes as they enter the roundabout.

Road users and local residents will be kept informed as soon as there is a new start date.
