A Downing Street spokesperson said:

The Prime Minister spoke to President Obama yesterday. The President reiterated his strong support for the Supporting Syria Conference taking place in London tomorrow and its aims: education for all refugee children, a significant increase in aid and a focus on improving conditions for refugees in the region.

The Prime Minister welcomed President Obama’s commitment to pledge substantial new funding and said he looked forward to seeing Secretary of State John Kerry at the conference.

The Prime Minister and President Obama agreed that it was encouraging that the Syrian opposition had engaged in UN convened talks, but recognised there was a long road ahead, which would require perseverance. They also agreed on the importance of Russia playing a constructive role in achieving a political solution.

The 2 leaders discussed the situation in Libya, and agreed on the need for a lasting political solution to create a stable and prosperous future. They also talked about the link between instability in Libya and the migration crisis in Europe, agreeing to look at further ways to combat people trafficking in the Mediterranean and stamp out the smuggling networks responsible for so many deaths.
