The Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, said:

My thoughts are with the family of Boutros Boutros Ghali and with all Egyptians as they mourn his death. As a seasoned diplomat, prominent Egyptian statesman for decades, and Secretary General of the UN during one of its most difficult periods, Mr Boutros Ghali’s contribution to international affairs will long be remembered.
