News story: Civil Service welcomes participants on the Early Diversity Internship

This item was filled under Housing

We hosted 100 interns at our opening reception for our Early Diversity Internship programme. The programme gives first-year undergraduates from under-represented backgrounds a sense of what being a Civil Servant is like.

Interns from universities across the UK are on a 1 week placement in various government departments. They’ll get the chance to attend networking sessions and skills workshops, as well as the opportunity to shadow a Fast Streamer as they work. The aim of the week-long internship is to provide awareness of the Civil Service and to prepare them for our Summer Diversity Internship programme. It’s also a great foundation for applying to our Fast Stream graduate programme.

The event provided our successful interns with the opportunity to hear from existing graduates and inspirational high profile figures such as the Civil Service Diversity Champion and the Permanent Under Secretary for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.
