News story: Saving power and frequency requirements with new radar communication framework

The University of Strathclyde is using Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) funding to look at novel capabilities for communicating radar from sensing platforms, which could reduce power and frequency requirements.

It has developed and demonstrated a fractional Fourier order division multiplexing framework for communicating radar systems. The communication and the radar performance have been evaluated on both simulated and real data and a benchtop demonstrator has been developed to validate the concept.

Planned next steps will be to develop a real-time working demonstrator, and integrate higher-level communication standards to enhance the data rate of the communication link.
