Julie was appointed as the Acting Executive Director when her predecessor, Ian Stockford, left Ofqual in December. Following a recruitment process, she has accepted the offer of a permanent position.

Chief Regulator Sally Collier said:

I am very pleased to announce Julie’s appointment. She has provided strong leadership over the past six months and I am delighted that she is now joining Ofqual’s executive team on a permanent basis.

Julie will lead our General Qualifications directorate into a busy summer that will include awarding the first new AS levels. She will also bring significant experience as we begin the process to accredit reformed GCSE, AS and A level submissions for first teaching in September 2017.

Julie has worked for Ofqual for seven years and was most recently our Associate Director for Regulatory Policy.

Julie Swan said:

I’m very happy to be able to continue the work I’ve done so far within the directorate. I appreciate that there are significant challenges ahead as we continue to reform GCSEs, AS and A levels and I am looking forward to working through those with colleagues and other stakeholders.
