Passports and visas

  • British citizens travelling on their British passport don’t need a visa to travel to Sweden, but your passport should be valid for the duration of your stay
  • Remember your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) but also take out travel insurance, even if you’re only going for one night – it could save you a lot of money if you get into difficulties, so travel insurance is essential, even if you’re only going for one night – it could save you a lot of money if you get into difficulties
  • You should be able to identify yourself at all times while in Sweden – you’ll need to carry photo ID (or a photo copy of your passport is fine too)

Getting to the stadium

  • Friends Arena is located in the Arenastaden district, just north of Stockholm. In direct connection to the arena, Mall of Scandinavia has opened with over 230 shops and 22 restaurants. If you follow the signs for Friends Arena you won’t have a problem finding the arena
  • The easiest way to get to Friends Arena is by public transport: commuter train, bus or underground
  • Commuter train (pendeltåg): Commuter train station Solna Station is just 7 minutes by train from Stockholm Central Station. Take the north entrance from the train station and the arena is a 10-15 minute walk (800 metres)
  • Underground (tunnelbana): The underground station Solna Centrum is on the ‘blue line’. The arena is a 20-25 minute walk from the station (1.4 km)
  • Buses: Get off at Solna Station or Arenan bus stop.

At the match

  • Welsh fans should enter the stadium through entrance E
  • You may be searched on entering the arena
  • You are not allowed to bring your own food or drink to the arena. Items which would usually be prohibited in the UK are also prohibited here

If something goes wrong

  • The emergency number for police, ambulance and fire services is 112
  • As in any other cities, beware of pickpockets and bag snatchers in public areas – only carry what you need and leave spare cash and valuables in the hotel safety deposit box
  • If your passport is lost or stolen, you should contact the consular section of the British Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden as soon as possible
  • If your passport is lost or stolen you may need to apply for an emergency travel document (ETD). The fee for an ETD is £95 ,payable by local currency or Visa/MasterCard credit cards. You’ll need to submit one passport photo in colour and a paper copy of your flight details when you apply
  • Please note that you need to book an appointment before you visit the embassy
