News story: Civil/crime news: registering to vote in EU referendum
Help people avoid the disappointment of trying to vote on whether the UK should stay in the EU only to find they are not on the electoral register.
Many people mistakenly believe themselves to be on the register and are turned away at polling stations.
So, in common with other government departments and arms length bodies, we’re encouraging people to make sure they can vote in the EU referendum on Thursday 23 June.
Online resources are available which allow people to register or to update their details in good time – see below.
How do people know if they are registered?
Anyone registered to vote will receive a poll card by Wednesday 25 May. Anyone unsure whether they are registered should contact their local electoral registration office – see below.
Anyone who is not registered to vote should do so by Tuesday 7 June.
People also need to register if they have moved house.
