The Committee on Climate Change has a duty under the Infrastructure Act 2015 to provide a report to government on the compatibility of exploiting domestic onshore petroleum, including shale gas, with UK carbon budgets and the 2050 emissions reduction target under the Climate Change Act 2008. This is published alongside the government’s response to the report.
