Mr Victors Eta Washington-Don, 47, of Stranraer Way, Islington, London pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates Court on 31 August 2016, to one charge of providing unregulated immigration advice or services committed since February 2015.

He was sentenced by Judge Coleman to a fine of £750. He was also ordered to pay £1,280 costs, £120 victim surcharge and £4,094 compensation.

He will pay £1,400 compensation today and the rest within 28 days. A collection order has been put in place.

Judge Coleman said that Mr Washington-Don was not qualified or authorised to act as an immigration adviser but still took the money from his victim.

Speaking about the decision, Deputy Immigration Services Commissioner, Dr Ian Leigh, said:

“The OISC is here to ensure that people seeking immigration advice are treated fairly by people they can trust to be fit and competent. Mr Washington-Don chose to operate outside the law.

“I hope this sends a clear message to other people considering providing immigration advice – act within the law or you will find yourself in court.”
