News story: Government renews focus on housing with Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government

Following the appointment of Rt Hon. Sajid Javid MP as the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, the department will be renamed as the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG).

Housing Secretary Sajid Javid said:

Building the homes our country needs is an absolute priority for this government and so I’m delighted the Prime Minister has asked me to serve in this role. The name change for the department reflects this government’s renewed focus to deliver more homes and build strong communities across England.

Junior ministerial appointments have been confirmed by the Prime Minister, along with their responsibilities. This includes an addition of a further Parliamentary Under Secretary of State to the ministerial team to reflect the government’s renewed focus on housing issues.

  • Dominic Raab – Minister of State for Housing and Planning
  • Jake Berry – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth
  • Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Wales Office, Minister for Faith
  • Rishi Sunak – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for Local Government
  • Heather Wheeler – Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister for Housing and Homelessness

Secretary of State Sajid Javid will also continue as the Ministerial Champion for the Midlands Engine.
