John Micklethwait is Editor-in-Chief of The Economist, which has a circulation of 1.5 million worldwide. After studying history at Magdalen College, Oxford, he worked as a banker at Chase Manhattan between 1985 and 1987 before joining The Economist as finance correspondent in 1987. His roles at The Economist have included setting up the Los Angeles bureau; media correspondent; running the New York Bureau; and editor of the United States section. He has appeared on radio and television around the world, and has co-authored five books. He was named Editors’ Editor of the Year at the British Society of Magazine Editors 2010 annual awards.
